Laura Smith is a dedicated community advocate, experienced professional, and passionate volunteer who has called Norristown home for more than 40 years. Throughout her life, Ms. Smith has demonstrated a strong commitment to serving others, building meaningful relationships, and creating opportunities that bring people together. Her professional accomplishments, community involvement, and dedication to volunteerism reflect her belief in the importance of giving back and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
A proud Norristown High School alumna, Ms. Smith continued her education by earning a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Her educational background, combined with her professional experience, has provided her with valuable skills in leadership, communication, organization, and relationship building.
Ms. Smith spent more than 15 years working in the pharmaceutical industry, including experience with Wyeth, SmithKline, and Merck. During her career, she developed an appreciation for the evolving world of pharmaceutical research and medical advancements. She enjoys leading meetings for medical professionals and researching cutting-edge pharmaceutical drugs, reflecting her continued interest in scientific innovation, healthcare developments, and the advancement of medical knowledge.
Beyond her professional career, Ms. Smith is actively involved in community service and local organizations. She currently serves on the board of Norristown's Recreation Center, formerly known as the PAL Center, where she contributes to efforts that support recreation and community engagement. She also enjoys participating in book-bag drives in partnership with Mt. Zion AME Church, helping provide students with essential school supplies and supporting families as they prepare for the academic year. Additionally, Ms. Smith previously served as a member of the Norristown Arts Council, where she shared her enthusiasm for the arts and her enjoyment of organizing and supporting large-scale community events.
Ms. Smith's commitment to service extends deeply into her faith and church community. She is highly active at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she participates in several ministries, including Enon at the Arts, the Photo Ministry, and the Community of Grace Dinner. Through the Community of Grace Dinner, she recruits volunteers to help provide meals to individuals experiencing food insecurity and others in need. Her involvement in these ministries demonstrates her compassion, willingness to serve, and dedication to creating opportunities for people to support one another.
Whether she is contributing to community initiatives, helping organize events, supporting families, or recruiting volunteers, Ms. Smith genuinely enjoys helping people. She believes that service is not simply about giving time but also about showing compassion, building connections, and creating an environment where individuals feel supported and valued. Her longstanding ties to Norristown and her involvement in various organizations reflect her continued investment in the well-being of the community she calls home.
When she is not volunteering, Ms. Smith enjoys photography, spending quality time with family and friends, and taking nature walks. She also maintains an active lifestyle as a member of Black Girls RUN! (B.G.R.), a running group that encourages women to embrace fitness, wellness, and community through running. She has completed the Broad Street Run three times, demonstrating her commitment to physical activity and personal achievement. One of her favorite group activities is the Hot Chocolate Run, where participants celebrate completing the run with a well-deserved chocolate reward.
Through her professional experience, educational achievements, community leadership, and dedication to volunteerism, Laura Smith continues to make a meaningful contribution to Norristown and the surrounding community. Her passion for helping others, enthusiasm for bringing people together, and willingness to serve wherever she is needed make her a valued member of the organizations and communities with which she is involved.
